Cape Coral will commemorate the victims of Sept. 11 with a solemn remembrance ceremony outside City Hall. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public, encouraging community members to gather in unity to honor those who were lost.
The ceremony will include an honor guard, a moment of silence, and comments from city leaders. In all, these tributes are meant to honor the nearly 3,000 people who died during the attacks. A central part of the commemoration includes the placement of 2,977 American flags, each representing a life taken that day.
“This day is about unity, remembrance, and respect,” Cape Coral Fire Department Chief Mike Russell said. “Coming together, showing that we will never forget the lives lost and the resilience that carried us forward, is what makes a community strong.”
The Cape Coral Police Department's Public Affairs Office said the day is “deeply ingrained in the hearts of police officers everywhere” and that it honors the first responders who “ran toward danger when others were running away.”
City officials invite residents, visitors, and local organizations to participate and reflect on the significance of Sept. 11. This annual event is designed to serve as a reminder of both the tragedy and the resilience that followed, ensuring the memory of those who perished continues to be honored.
