A 30-day notice is forcing the well-known Alva farm stand, 31 Produce, to close by Sept. 21. State officials seized the land through eminent domain for an upcoming road project.
The shop broke the news on social media last week. "Thank you, everyone, for all the amazing years and support," stated their Facebook post.
Government plans forced the North Fort Myers business to pack up shop. When officials claim eminent domain, they can take private land for public works, though they must pay fair value to owners.
Since 2008, this stand has provided its neighbors with fresh food options. Their simple cafe drew folks from miles around. Seventeen years of morning coffee, farm-fresh eggs, and warm greetings built bonds with local families.
Their social media post struck a bittersweet tone: "Please come see us next week for some great deals and say goodbye to your favorite local farm stand & cafe; it's been an honor to serve you."
