At a packed Northwest Regional Library meeting, Cape Coral citizens voiced strong opinions about Cape Coral Parkway's traffic woes.
The gathering brought frustrated drivers face-to-face with city officials. Tempers flared as locals shared stories of endless waits in morning rush hour.
"We're just bottleneck there, and it's just going to be that way. I don't see how much more you can improve it," said Tom Shadrach, according to WINK News.
This traffic analysis fits within a broader $1.1 billion Community Development Block Grant initiative. City Manager Mike Ilczyszyn stressed its connection to public safety needs.
"We are moving forward with a disaster recovery analysis of Cape Coral Parkway and how that will be utilized as an evacuation route," Ilczyszyn said.
The crowd shot down the study proposal quickly. Shadrach questioned spending money on outside experts when the problems seem clear-cut.
"We have 1,800 employees. Do we really need a consultant again to talk about more and more stuff that we all know is a problem?" Shadrach said.
District 4 Council Member Jennifer Nelson-Lastra watched the heated exchanges unfold. The full council will tackle the study proposal at its next session on Wednesday.
