Next month, West Bay Club will host the FGCU's men's golf squad's second annual tournament. Twelve teams will hit the links on Oct. 6-7, marking a fresh start after last year's event fell victim to Hurricane Milton's wrath.

Top-ranked squads from across the nation will tee off at this year's contest. Players from Florida Atlantic, UCF, USF, and other schools will test their skills. Most competing teams sit within the nation's top 100 rankings.

"It provides a unique opportunity for our student-athletes to play, develop, really just grow up," head coach Andrew Danna said, according to Gulf Coast News. "It's awesome for our program in so many ways."

Fresh off a strong showing in Myrtle Beach, where they claimed second place among 16 competitors, the host team enters with momentum. Their current national ranking puts them among the top 40 teams.

Since 2020, West Bay Club has served as the team's training ground. Danny Butts, the club's head pro, praised the local support: "West Bay is tremendously involved in helping grow the program, and I feel proud to have had the members be engaged in Southwest Florida golf."

This year's squad brings back every player from their NCAA Regional qualifying run. Young talent dominates the roster, with first and second-year players leading the charge. Sophomore Brett Moore spoke with confidence: "We all know we're better than last year. So kind of using that to just make it further this year."

Junior Christian Figueredo shared his bold vision: "The sky's the limit for this team. We know how good we can be. We work really hard as a group, so we can go as far as we want to go."

Butts welcomes spectators to watch without charge. "We encourage them to come and watch some of the best golf in the country," he said.
