This October, Lee County Domestic Animal Services has cut the cost to adopt adult dogs to $25. The PUPkin Special marks Adopt a Shelter Dog Month with this reduced rate.

Each adoption includes $600 worth of services. Dogs go home fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. The package also includes a county license and a 10-day health guarantee.

As the main intake site for local strays, the county shelter cares for countless animals. Staff members push to match pets with new families through low-cost adoptions and outreach.

The shelter needs more than adopters. Pet fans can step up as foster parents, giving animals short-term care. The Weekend Warrior plan lets locals host shelter pets for brief stays, giving them a break from kennel life.

If you want to adopt, you can submit forms online through the county site, visit in person, or print and fax the papers. The county updates its site often, showing new animals as they arrive at the shelter.

Stop by to meet the pets at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers. The center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
