Starting this fall, young children in Lee County will get monthly books in their mailboxes through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The program mails age-specific books straight to kids from birth until they turn five. Registration costs $30.

"We are so excited to bring this incredible program to Lee County," said Ashley Richter, executive director of United Way of Lee County. "Every child deserves the chance to grow up with books in their home, and the Imagination Library helps make that possible."

The Dollywood Foundation manages the worldwide effort, while local partners handle distribution in their areas. In Lee County, the United Way branch will spearhead fundraising and coordination.

To celebrate the launch, there will be a Downtown Dolly Stampede on Saturday, Nov. 8. Participants can check in at 10:15 a.m. at the Madwater Saloon in Dixon. The walk begins at 11 a.m., crossing the Peoria and Galena Avenue bridges.

After the walk, participants can participate in a scavenger hunt. Submit your completed hunt card by 3 p.m. for a chance to win prizes. You can also wear your best Dolly-inspired outfit.
