Drivers will stop at a new traffic signal at the bridge's base beginning Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, FDOT officials said. The light marks a key shift in traffic patterns.

FDOT crews set up warning flashers last week, giving motorists time to adjust. The signal is part of wider changes taking shape at Fort Myers Beach.

Two weeks ago, workers switched on the first new light at Fifth Street and San Carlos Boulevard. This kicked off the start of major traffic control updates in the area.

Construction teams keep pushing forward with more updates. A new roundabout will soon take shape where the bridge meets land. New paths for walking and crossing streets will stretch across the zone. Cars heading to the beach will find two extra lanes.

There will also be a new traffic light on Main Street. FDOT hasn't announced finish dates for the remaining work.
