Despite uncertainty around the federal shutdown, Punta Gorda Airport will host the Florida International Air Show on Nov. 1 and 2. The show marks a strong return after weather disruptions sidelined the 2024 event. Questions linger about the U.S. Navy Blue Angels' participation.

"The federal government shutdown could end at any time, and our team is maintaining full readiness to host an incredible weekend celebrating aviation," said Denise Dull, president of the Air Show Board of Directors, according to WGCU.

Punta Gorda hasn't seen the Blue Angels fly across its skies since 2012. The shutdown forced the team to cancel their San Francisco Fleet Week appearance. Their schedule shows stops in Georgia and Jacksonville before the Punta Gorda show.

"Due to the popularity of the Blue Angels, we sold out premium tickets in advance," air show spokesperson Steve Lineberry said, per Gulf Shore Business.

The Thunderbirds headlined the 2023 show, drawing 45,400 spectators. After expenses, ticket sales hit $672,729, with $41,000 going to local charities.

Charlotte County's economy soars during the show. Out-of-county visitors filled 1,616 hotel rooms in 2023, spending $5.3 million total. The show weekend alone generated $3.6 million in local spending.

New attractions include hands-on exhibits at the Family Aviation Experience and Innovators STEM Pavilion.

Local volunteers power this nonprofit event. Gates open at 9 a.m. both days, with aerial displays starting at 11:45 a.m. General admission tickets remain available through the event website.
