Florida Gulf Coast University will host a screening of Rising: Surviving the Surge on Nov 13 at The Water School. The film examines Hurricane Ian and what happened during the recovery across Southwest Florida.
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It includes a reception, the screening, and a panel talk. WGCU will present the screening on the campus in Fort Myers.
The documentary features storm footage. It also includes interviews with survivors, scientists, and local leaders. Viewers will see the science behind storm surge and hear real stories from people who lived through the hurricane.
Mike Kiniry hosts WGCU's Gulf Coast Life. He will moderate a panel discussion after the screening. Four experts will take part in the conversation about what the storm did and what people learned from it.
Dr. Jeannine Richards will join the panel, along with Dr. Shelton Weeks, Dr. Johane Dikgang, and Dr. Tom Felke. The discussion takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The reception begins at 5 p.m. and the film starts at 5:30 p.m.
