Tom Bergeron will make a return to "Dancing with the Stars," this time as a guest judge on Nov. 11 for Season 34. The episode, celebrating the show's 20th anniversary, will be his first appearance since leaving in 2020.
The event is expected to be "wonderfully emotional, nostalgic," with many former champions and competitors showing up. The episode will feature a special dance challenge.
Bergeron won't host but will be a guest judge, allowing current co-host Alfonso Ribeiro to take the spotlight. "My appearance will be somewhat loose and unpredictable," Bergeron told Today.
He was the co-host of "Dancing with the Stars" from its start in 2005 until 2020, playing an essential role in shaping the show's vibe and popularity. Over 28 seasons, he received an Emmy for his work.
In 2020, Bergeron left after expressing concerns about the casting of former White House press secretary Sean Spicer. He had thought political figures wouldn't be featured, wanting the show to remain a fun escape from politics.
"I would have felt the same no matter the political figure," Bergeron clarified, emphasizing his wish for the show to stay politically neutral.
Coming back during the show's reflection on its history, Bergeron's exit signaled a shift since he was deeply connected to the show's identity. He adeptly mixed humor with empathy when chatting with contestants.
After he left, Tyra Banks stepped in. Producers and network executives kept making casting decisions, with Bergeron leaving that up to them.
The Nov. 11 episode promises an intriguing look into the show's history. Bergeron's guest judging spot will bring a sense of nostalgia and celebration.
