Fort Myers City Council greenlighted a deal with Lee County on Nov. 3, 2025. Free seasonal trolley routes will keep running in the River District downtown. Routes 500 and 505 start Nov. 20 and run through April 22, 2026.

The total project cost is $711,867. A Florida Department of Transportation grant provides $355,933, and the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency is providing $268,130. Developers contribute $84,804, and the city's general fund picks up the last $3,000.

Lee County provides four trolleys daily from about 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. There is no service on New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day.

This deal extends a years-long partnership. The municipality and county have teamed up before on downtown transit. River District businesses and attractions depend on these seasonal routes to pull in residents and visitors.
