Lee County commissioners approved a $248,002 contract on Nov. 18, 2025, with Superior Builders Group Inc. The money will be used to repair and reconstruct four boardwalk sections at Lakes Park in south Fort Myers. These structures went up over 40 years ago.

This work stands apart from maintenance completed earlier this year. The earlier job focused on areas near the Whistle Stop Ice Cream shop and marina.

Other projects are happening at the South Fort Myers park. Hurricane Ian destroyed the splash pads, which will be rebuilt by summer 2026. A Natural Resources program to cut nutrients and algae in the lake should wrap up in early 2026, boosting water quality.

The boardwalks give visitors access to nature areas. They link different parts of the park. Guests who walk the trails and paths depend on them.

Lakes Park sits in southern Fort Myers and includes walking trails, water features, and places to play.
