Fort Myers city council members gave their approval on Dec. 1, 2025, to pursue a $1.5 million state grant. The money would build a 14-court pickleball venue in The Forum neighborhood.

The Parks and Recreation Department will request funds from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's fiscal year 2025-26 Land and Water Conservation Fund Program. Construction plans call for courts, lights, shaded seating, fencing, amenities, and infrastructure work.

Officials cite surging interest in the sport. They want more sports tourism. The venue will sit within four parks planned for The Forum area, east of Interstate 75 between State Road 82 and Colonial Boulevard along Warrior Way.

These courts mark Phase 2 of The Forum Project. Workers installed fitness stations earlier this year during Phase 1. Staff anticipates choosing a contractor within days.

"This funding will be used to develop dedicated pickleball courts, lighting for evening play, shaded seating areas, fencing, site amenities, and infrastructure improvements," states the adopted resolution, according to Gulf Shore Business.

Two additional phases await completion after pickleball construction wraps up. Phases 3 and 4 remain open-ended. Residents will weigh in on what gets built. Options on the table might be multiuse fields, a dog park, playgrounds, an outdoor fitness court, picnic spots, and green spaces.
