Florida Gas Prices Drop Below $3 Per Gallon as Holiday Travel Season Begins

Gas prices in Florida fell to $2.79 per gallon on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025. That's a 12-cent drop from the week before and the lowest daily average since May 2021. Most spots across the state now sit below $3 per gallon as millions get ready to drive for the holidays.
Prices have fallen three weeks straight. The state has seen a 31-cent decrease over 23 days.
"Florida gas prices have declined for three consecutive weeks," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group, according to the Miami Herald. "If current trends continue, holiday travelers will find the lowest gas prices in years."
About 7.5 million Floridians are traveling for the holidays. Some 6.7 million will drive. The timing gives motorists a break on costs.
North Florida has the cheapest fuel in the state. Panama City led with $2.66 per gallon, while Pensacola followed at $2.67. Naples and West Palm Beach remain among the priciest spots, with West Palm Beach at $2.91 per gallon.
Miami-Dade averaged $2.83 per gallon on Monday, an 8-cent decrease from the prior week. Fort Lauderdale matched that price with a 9-cent drop. West Palm Beach saw the biggest decline at 16 cents.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said refineries are wrapping up maintenance and boosting output to near summer highs. He pointed out that increased oil production from OPEC has pressured crude prices lower. "Just ahead of Christmas, the national average stands at its lowest level since March 12, 2021, delivering weekly savings of nearly $400 million compared to this time last year," De Haan said.
Tampa and St. Petersburg averaged $2.76 per gallon. Orlando and Lakeland matched at $2.77. Jacksonville came in at $2.78.
