The Cape Coral Animal Shelter kicked off its eighth annual Giving Tree Campaign. An anonymous donor provided $25,000 to match contributions dollar for dollar.

Each donation lets someone dedicate a light on the tree. People can pick their reason — every light tells its own story of kindness, according to the shelter's announcement.

"Thanks to the extraordinary commitment of our anonymous matching donor, every dollar donated will be matched up to $25,000, instantly doubling the impact of each contribution," said Liz McCauley, executive director, according to Cape Coral Breeze. "These critical funds will directly support the Shelter's mission to rescue, protect, and provide compassionate care to the forgotten and abandoned animals in our community."

Money raised goes toward rescuing abandoned animals and providing care. Each contribution adds another light to the tree, making it glow brighter.

The announcement describes the campaign as bigger than just raising money. "The Giving Tree is more than a fundraiser — it is a symbol of hope, love, and remembrance," the release states.

McCauley and her team thanked everyone who supported their work, with special gratitude to the donor who made the match possible. They're asking the community to help them reach the full $25,000.
