The bald eagle is a bird of prey found in North America. A sea eagle, it has two known subspecies and forms a species pair with the white-tailed eagle, which occupies the same niche as the bald eagle in the Palearctic.

People are continuing to watch the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam closely. It was installed on the nest on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers by Dick Pritchett Real Estate. This live camera is up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so anyone can see what is happening with the nest at this time during this breeding season.

The camera has documented a second egg from the bonded pair F23 and M15 during the current season. One egg has already hatched, resulting in the eaglet E26, which is being actively fed and cared for by both parents. The second egg remains in the nest, drawing intense attention from viewers invested in the outcome.

The extensive history of WGCUs' partnership with the Eagle Cam has highlighted to the public the level of attraction and emotional connection the general public has developed toward the nesting site and the eagle nest itself. The nest remains the focal point in the area for many people because of the significant events (hatching, deaths) that have occurred there.

Ginnie Pritchett McSpadden, co-founder of the Eagle Cam, has expressed cautious optimism about the unhatched egg. “Maybe,” she said. “But not sure at this point.” Her remarks reflect both hope for a late hatch, potentially marked by a visible pip, and acknowledgment that the outcome remains uncertain.

As of Dec. 23, only one egg has hatched, and the second egg remains unhatched at approximately day 40 of incubation. While a hatch is still biologically possible at this stage, the risk of failure or delay increases over time.

The circumstances at this time fit within the historical context of the Bayshore Road nest, which has experienced everything from severe egg losses to productive nesting seasons; therefore, the combination helps viewers set expectations when monitoring the nest.
