A new bar and eatery complex has opened at 2400 First St. in downtown Fort Myers, introducing two separate brands under one roof: The G Spot and Chef & Co. The concept revives a former brewery site that most recently housed Voodoo Brewing Co. for nearly a year, bringing a fresh nightlife and dining option to the downtown corridor adjacent to the Fort Myers Regional Library.
The G Spot operates as a full-service liquor bar featuring 24 beer taps, eight TVs, including a 98-inch screen, two dartboards, indoor shuffleboard, and a Golden Tee game. Programming rotates European soccer in the mornings, followed by NFL and college sports later in the day. The bar's drink menu includes a signature Bloody Bomb, with an emphasis on an inviting, neighborhood-style atmosphere.
“We want to be the new Cheers of downtown,” said marketing director Jeremy Christenson, referencing the 1980s TV show about the bar “where everybody knows your name.”
The name itself is intentionally playful and non-specific. “The G doesn't stand for anything in particular,” Christenson said. “OK, we understand the tongue-in-cheek nature of it. But the G can stand for ‘Gathering' or ‘Grateful' or ‘Good' food and ‘Great' drinks.
“We're taking the Master Bait & Tackle approach to this,” Christenson said, referencing the fishing supply store off Bonita Beach Road, which, like the G Spot, has a name that sounds off-color.
Chef & Co. functions as a made-to-order ghost kitchen operating on site as a distinct entity, serving smash burgers, tacos, salads, and chef-inspired gourmet bar food. The kitchen also serves as a launching pad for broader culinary offerings tied to the brand.
“I come from a background of tacos,” said Abuoqab, whose taco restaurant Fiesta is located off State Road 29 in LaBelle. “We saw the opening here, and I feel we're catering to a new clientele. We specialize in tacos, but we have smash burgers and chef-inspired, gourmet bar food.”
Naser Abuoqab leads Chef & Co., while owners Keith and Meshelle Towles oversee the bar operation. General manager Kate Voorhees directs a staff of approximately 25 employees. The project initially considered the name Gathering before finalizing The G Spot as the concept evolved.
