The 35th annual Tour De Cape happens Jan. 23-25 in Cape Coral. Riders can pick from 15 to 100 miles. There's also a 5K run/walk and a Mini Kids Ride. You can sign up now, and prices drop if you register before Jan. 23.

About 1,000 people join this three-day event each year. They come from all over the United States and even other countries. Courses twist through the northwest and southwest parts of town, launching from Rotary Park.

"We're incredibly excited to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Tour De Cape — a true Cape Coral tradition that brings our community together for fitness, fun, and friendly competition," said Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Director Joe Petrella, according to Cape Coral Breeze. "This event has grown into something special over the decades and we're proud to host runners, cyclists, families, and visitors from across the region as we kick off another healthy new year."

Things start Jan. 23 with a kick-off party at The Westin outside Marker 92 Waterfront Bar & Bistro from 4 to 7 p.m. You can grab packets, maps, and T-shirts there. The first 250 people who pick up their packet get a logo item.

The 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m. on Jan. 24 with chip timing, video finish, and a grab-and-go breakfast. Kids hit the pavement at 10:30 a.m. that same day with the Mini Kids Ride, though safety and helmet checks happen at 10:15. Training wheels won't work on this course, and balance bikes can't be used either. Every child who rides gets entered to win a new bike.

Sunday brings bike rides at 15, 30, 62, and 100 miles. Riders sprint through a "speed zone" challenge that clocks their final quarter mile. Police watch the open courses. Staff from Parks and Recreation and Cape Coral Police Department will rescue tired riders.

"What makes Tour De Cape so special is that there's something for everyone," said Joe Petrella. "From beginners and families in the Mini Kids Ride to those tackling the 100-mile bike route, we offer a range of distances and formats so participants can choose what fits their pace and experience level."

Early registration runs $25 for the 5K, $10 for the Mini Kids Ride, and $40 for bike rides. Want both the 5K and bike ride? A combo package costs $55. Prices jump on Jan. 24. Sign up early and you'll get performance shirts while supplies last.
